Beans, Bullets, Bandages and You was down for about a day-and-a-half due to a couple of factors.
- There was an issue with a plugin that caused an unusual amount of processor load that was starting to affect the other users on the system.
- Although I addressed the issue within 30 minutes of being notified of the problem, the host where 3BY is served from did an abysmal job of actually turning the website back on. I’ll write the full details and name names at a later date.
Let me assure you, no tin-foil hat is required to explain this outage, it wasn’t due to a crack-down on a prepping website (the people I was dealing with had no idea we even were a prepping blog) but rather a technical glitch followed by a whole lot careless horrible customer service by people who just really don’t care one little bit customer satisfaction.
So what does this mean for the future?
We are moving our service to a different host, and frankly it’s a lot more expensive. A LOT more expensive.
We have committed to remaining ad-free and we want to avoid affiliate programs as well. We also intend to keep the main content on 3BY 100 percent free.
We have been working on a Patreon program, where people who wish to can help support the website and help Spice and I pay the expenses of the website. Patreon members will get new content not available before on 3BY, including many more podcasts, photos and some articles. They will also get access to my prepping fiction as it’s written (something that will not appear here on 3BY).
More on that later.
What does this mean for this weekend?
We are actually in the process of transitioning the website so any comments you make may end up disappearing in the future. This story will probably disappear as well.
I just wanted to give you a quick update and tell you all that, substantially, all is well.
Thanks for reading!
