Lasagna. Add boiling water, wait 15, eat. Do these things go together?

Seven ounces and under $6 for two servings.
Backpacker’s Pantry pouch meals are a nice choice for lightweight Real food requiring nothing but boiling water. Since we have Kelly Kettles (reviewed here), making these things is flat easy even when the power is out. Tonight we tried the Lasagna.
Taste and Satisfaction
Taste is ok. Not particularly good – a little bland, an little salty for my taste — but certainly not bad. Nice subtlety to the seasoning and cheese, but a bit underdone on the vegetable and meat flavors (not real meat; they’re vegetarian). Salty: “It’s edible.”
Maybe I’m biased a bit; it’s not actually lasagna to me unless it’s got that layering thing going on. Instead it’s one of the prepper standards of ‘pasta in red sauce, with some meat and cheese’. At least they put in a few veggie bits for a flavor twist.
It was, like the other Backpacker’s Pantry stuff I’ve tried, nicely satisfying. When it says 2 servings per pouch, that’s real: Half the pouch is a good plateful of hot food. 380 calories per serving is enough, too, unless your activity level’s been high. Some prep meal ‘servings’ leave you wondering where the rest of the food is; but not this stuff.
Ease of use
No easier way to get hot food for the weight.
Nutrition
Above average as prep foods go, but not perfect. It’s about 20% of a day’s calories, but nearly 50% of a day’s protein. Good on vitamins and minerals: Vit A and C 60%, Calcium 30%, Iron 25%. Also 26% of a day’s fiber; and that’s a weak spot of many prepper foods. 30% of a day’s sodium though; higher than optimal but not bad on the prepper food scale. Low on the unpronounceable ingredients scale.
Overall
Thumbs up, albeit with less enthusiasm than for some of their other varieties. There’s a lot to be said for being able to pull out a light, small, envelope out of a pack and have a satisfying hot meal in less than half an hour, fire starting included. This product offers that, even if the taste was nothing special.
