Air ambulance membership as a prep?
The first things most preppers think about, concentrate on, are large-scale breakdown low-probability SHTF situations.
From large-scale grid-down TEOTWAWKI situations, nuclear attack, terrorist bombings, you name it… the sorts of events that invade the preppers dreams at night.
Often, people either put aside or ignore short term but critically important preps to help insure they live longer.
Let’s talk about Air Ambulances
Preppers drive around without fastening their seat belts. They ride motorcycles without helmets. They basically fail to prep for basic, high-probability events such as an vehicular accidents.
In this week’s podcast, we talk about risk management, and why as a part of our personal risk assessment we decided to become members of a national Air Ambulance service (one that covers our area, and most of the locations we travel)
Advantages of air ambulance memberships
Over 100,000 patients were transported by the largest air ambulance compnay last year.
According to their website,
“Even though most of our members carry traditional health insurance, providers offer many different types of plans and coverages. And, after co-payments and deductibles, not every insurance company will cover the total cost of emergency medical transport. AMCN membership shields you and your entire household from all out-of-pocket expenses when transported by one of our providers.”
Do you need it where you live?
If you live in a city or suburbs, then you will probably have a different risk envelope than we do.
The point we would like you to consider isn’t whether becoming a member of an air ambulance service is right for you, but rather to get you to look at our decision process, and start thinking about the everyday risks around you… ones that are far more likely to impact your life than a TEOTWAWKI event.
You guys are excellent peppers. Insurance can be an important prep, a financial prep that if ignored can destroy all your other careful preparations.
I’m a subscriber to my area-wide EMS, and my health insurance includes air ambulance coverage, so I’m good. But some people I know are completely uncovered, trusting to their youth or to good luck to keep them solvent. I wish you could get this message more widely disseminated. It’s an important one.
smart thing to have here. we fly out a lot of patients and the flight bill starts at $30,000 and goes up from there. we are at minimum 1.5 hours away from a major trauma, stroke or heart attack center.ch
