The EOTech EXPS3 Holographic Sight is Salty & Spice’s holographic optic of choice. It has proven to be rugged and 100 percent reliable. We review it in this podcast.

Here’s the manufacturer’s blurb about the optic:

“The “E” is for “Extreme.” The EXPS3 offers true 2-eyes-open shooting and a 7 mm raised base that still allows for iron sight access. It features easy-to-adjust side buttons and an adjustable, locking, quick-detach lever for easy attachment and removal. It is also the optic of choice for the technologically advanced modern rifle hunter. Its night vision-compatibility makes it a versatile choice for day or night hunting.”

We have two of these optics, hers has one dot whereas mine has two… here are the available reticles:

As stated, we have both the one dot and two dot variants. Spice prefers the one dot, because she does not like to put a magnifier on her weapon. Salty, on the other hand, often uses a magnifier (a Sig Juliet 4 4×24), which separates the dots out nicely.

Our POU of our Tavor X95’s is close combat, all weather, so we need optics that will work both day and night (the EXPS3 is night-vision compatible, and even without night vision gear it aids in target acquisition by allowing the aiming point to be seen). Therefore, two dots are not really necessary… in theory, our X95’s will not be shooting at longer than 150 yards.

Still, Salty likes options. Salty also thinks is weird writing about himself in third person.

The bottom line?

We like them enough to own multiple copies. Listen to the podcast to hear our full review!

    • Not yet but it’s on the list. We’ve just finished buying the guns and the optics, and between all of that it’s close to $5K which is enough in all honesty to spend for a bit.

        • Right now I have a couple of Gen 1 night vision devices (meh) and a digital night vision scope (adequate for close range, 100 yards or less). Next up is one of those FLIR Thermal scopes, that will be interesting. Real night vision will have to wait until funds allow.

On the “flip down magnifier” I’m going to get one of the Vortex ones to start with because I’ve used one and it was well built and had good optics. I just can’t see paying $550ish for an EOTech one, especially since the designated philosophy of use is a close quarters rifle carbine (100 yards or less) and the magnifier will not be left on the gun. Gotta keep that gun weight down!
