Podcast: Choosing A Survival Retreat Location, Things To Consider

In this episode of the 3BY podcast, we talk about things to consider if/when it’s time to look into finding a good survival bug-out location (BOL) otherwise known as a survival retreat, something similar to The Place.

We talk not only about buying a survival retreat to bug-out to, but also what to look for in you BOL.

Heck, even Wikipedia steps up and spills the beans on the subject. Here’s what they have to say on it:

“Common retreat locale selection parameters include light population density, plentiful water, arable land, good solar exposure for gardening and photovoltaics, situation above any flood plains, and a diverse and healthy local economy. Fearing rioting, looting and other unrest, many survivalists advocate selecting retreat locales that are more than one tank of gasoline away from any major metropolitan region. Properties that are not in “channelized areas” or on anticipated “refugee lines of drift” are also touted.”

We take it a step farther, because we realize a lot of people (for whatever reason) will never be able to put together a retreat of their own, and if a bug-out situation occurs, they are going to be in a real pickle. We touch on that in this podcast, and we will continue to talk about it in the future here on 3BY.

UPDATED TO ADD:

This was one of the earlier articles published on Beans, Bullets, Bandages and You, and we’ve added a bunch of material to the website that also touches on the BOL / survival retreat topic.

Here’s one that discusses three considerations on where to establish a BOL:

Three Considerations For Choosing Where To Establish A Bug Out Location (BOL)

Here’s another article about setting up a low cost retreat in a small town or rural area:

The only way to establish a survival retreat is to start the process by gathering the necessary information and figuring out exactly what your needs are. There’s no time to being like the present!
